While USA government is fighting to curb the massive presence of fake news on giant social media platforms like Facebook, Google, Twitter and etc; I wonder what the church is doing to fight fake gospel flooded on the same social media platform. Millions of the people today are are on social media reading this fake gospel. This explains why today we have many church members who are confused on things that were to be understood easily. As a result, church members fight over nonessential issues concerning spiritual matters. We have minds that are adulterated by the fake gospel. Fake gospel is the recipe for serious troubles within the church as we live in the last days and it requires immediate attention by the entire church.
It appears many people look for various information on social media as opposed to few decades ago when information was searched in big libraries and databases. Apart from various information that people search on social media, religious subjects are also searched all the time. However, many of the people who search for such information have no knowledge on how to differentiate what is true or fake information. The church is not spared, because many of the members trust to read for themselves about some religious matters affecting their life. We are living in the computer age when we cannot stop people from using social media, but the best we can do is to equip them on how they can safely use social media. This is the best time to let our church members know that not everything printed or published with our church symbols and logos is legit. Fight fake gospel by confirming what you read with your church leaders and measuring it against Scriptures. In times like these, we need to formulate our doctrine in consultation with those that are skilled to decipher what is genuine and fake.
Today I have three major suggestions that I believe if implemented, can help solve or save many people from getting lost with the fake gospel. First, it would be good if church pastors and all church leaders are trained on how to search and verify information on social media. Many of them are taken unawares when their members bombard them with information that they read on social media. What many people do not know is that it is very easy in our time to create a website and many have counterfeit websites that appears to be for our church, yet they are used by those who hate the church and their aim is bring discord within the church. Second, let church members also know that not everything that social media call new light is actually new light; some of it is fake gospel. Fake gospel shares the same tendency of fake news that it gets spread faster than the true gospel. Unfortunately, fake news is easily accepted by many people.
Finally, be proactive by empowering all churches to have communications department leaders who one of their job description is to train their members on how they can validate their sources when searching for information. The Bible counsels us by saying, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). The devil is behind fake news and fake gospel but Jesus is the one who is the author of the true gospel. Say no to fake news and also say no to fake gospel. However, say yes, to the true gospel because Jesus is coming soon. Accept him today as your personal savior and always get ready. Let us share this message by reposting it on our pages with the purpose to curb the massive spread of the fake gospel.
